Start Your ApplicationTo be considered for admission to Visionary Films' directing program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of filmmaking experience to apply. Our admissions committee is looking for individuals who are passionate about storytelling, committed to their craft, and eager to learn. Specific instructions for each part of the application are included below.
Portfolio Guidelines: Your portfolio is a crucial component of your application. We want to see your creative potential and your ability to tell compelling stories. Please submit your best work, even if it's not perfect. Quality is more important than quantity. Short films should be no longer than 15 minutes. Screenplays should be excerpts of longer works (no more than 15 pages). Photography and video essays should be accompanied by a brief artist statement.
Letters of Recommendation: Provide your recommenders with ample time to write a thoughtful letter on your behalf. Request letters from individuals who know you well and can speak to your creative abilities, work ethic, and potential as a filmmaker. Provide your recommenders with a copy of your personal essay and portfolio to give them context for their letter.
Interview Process: If your application is selected for further review, you will be invited to participate in an interview with our admissions committee. The interview is an opportunity for us to learn more about you, your filmmaking goals, and your fit for our program. Be prepared to discuss your portfolio, your personal essay, and your filmmaking aspirations. The interview is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about our program and the filmmaking community in Austin.
